The role of transesophageal echocardiography during the Ross procedure.

چکیده
Pulmonary autograft replacement of the aortic valve, the “Ross procedure,” involves transplantation of the native pulmonary valve into the aortic position and reconstruction of the right ventricular outflow tract with a cryopreserved pulmonary or aortic homograft. In any surgeon’s hands this operation is technically challenging and successful performance of the Ross procedure requires strategies to avoid coronary artery and myocardial injury and optimize post-transplantation pulmonary autograft architecture. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) can be instrumental in guiding surgical management of these patients.

[Transesophageal echocardiography in Ross procedure].
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Ross procedure is one of the surgical procedures for correction of severe congenital aortic insufficiency. Intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography is essential for optimal surgical evaluation. Furthermore, it is able to assess the blood volume profile and the need for administration of vasoactive drugs during surgery. CASE REPORT This is a 15-year old teenage...
متن کاملTransesophageal echocardiographic diagnosis of pulmonary arteriovenous malformation. Role of contrast and pulsed Doppler echocardiography.
Contrast echocardiography produced by peripheral injection of agitated saline solution is widely used for detecting intracardiac and intrathoracic extracardiac shunts, like pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (PAVM). Currently, localization of PAVM requires pulmonary angiography even after detection by computed tomography of the chest. Pulsed Doppler along with contrast echocardiography of the...
متن کاملEvaluation of transesophageal echocardiography in detecting cardiac sources of emboli in ischemic stroke patients
Background: Embolus is one of the causes of ischemic stroke that can be due to cardiac sources such as valvular heart diseases and atrial fibrillation and atheroma of the aorta. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is superior in identifying potential cardiac sources of emboli. Due to insufficient data on TEE findings in ischemic stroke in Iran, the present study was done to evaluate TEE in...

Pseudoaneurysm is a rare condition in the region of the fibrous body between the mitral and aortic valve, the mitral-aortic intervalvular fibrosa (MAIVF), that has been reported as a sequela of endocarditis and surgical trauma. MAIVF rarely occurs on native aortic valve after infective endocarditis (IE). It is often fatal because of its rapid progress, high rates of rupture and recurrence, and ...
متن کامل[Use of transesophageal echocardiography during implantation of aortic endoprosthesis (stent). Initial experience].
OBJECTIVE To report the role played by transesophageal echocardiography during implantation of self-expanding aortic endoprostheses (stent) at a hemodynamics laboratory. METHODS Thirteen patients underwent stent implantation in the descending thoracic aorta with the aid of transesophageal echocardiography during the entire procedure. Indications for stenting were as follows: 8 aortic dissecti...
